Historical vs Summary campaign reports
VICIdial's Reports tab has outbound, inbound, and agent summaries that roll up a single day per campaign. Here's the difference between a quick summary view and a deeper historical dig, and when to reach for each.
Once a campaign has been running for a while, the question shifts from "what's happening right now" to "how did we do." That's where VICIdial's Reports tab comes in. It's easy to get lost in the long list of report links, so it helps to think in two buckets: quick day-level summaries you check often, and deeper historical pulls you reach for when you're investigating something specific.
What the summary reports give you
From the Reports tab you'll find a set of summaries that each roll up a single day for a specific Campaign. There's an outbound view for the dialing side, an inbound (closer) view for the calls your Closer agents took, and an agent view for per-person totals. Pick a day and a campaign, and you get the headline numbers: calls placed, how they dispositioned, how agents performed.
These day-level rollups are the right tool for a morning check-in or an end-of-shift wrap. They are fast to read and answer the everyday questions about whether yesterday hit target. For the daily metrics that matter most, our dialing strategies guide covers what to watch and why it moves.
When you need a historical dig
A single-day summary is great for a snapshot but useless for spotting a trend. When you want to compare this week against last, or trace why your Contact rate slipped over a month, you move into historical territory — reports that span a date range or drill down to call-level detail. This is where you confirm whether a bad day was a blip or the start of a slide, and where you gather the evidence to back a change.
A practical way to split your habits:
- Summary first — check the day-level outbound, inbound, and agent rollups to see if today is normal.
- Historical when something's off — pull a date range or call-level detail to find the pattern behind the bad number.
- Live screen for the present — use the real-time campaign view when the question is about right now, not about history.
Reading a report against your settings
Reports are most useful when you read them next to your campaign settings. A high Drop rate in the outbound summary, for instance, points straight at your pacing — and our guide on how to lower your VICIdial drop rate walks through the dials to turn. A weak contact rate over a date range often means your Lead list is going stale, not that your agents are slacking. The report tells you where to look; your settings tell you what to change.
One more habit worth forming: when you find something in a historical report, write down what you changed and the date you changed it. The next time you pull a date range, you'll be able to see whether your fix actually moved the number or whether the trend kept sliding regardless. Reports without that context just tell you what happened; reports paired with a change log tell you why, and that's the difference between guessing and managing.
Build the two-bucket habit and reporting stops feeling like a maze. Check summaries daily, dig into history only when a number surprises you, and you'll spend far less time staring at screens. If you'd rather not babysit the box these reports run on, our managed plans handle the server side — see the pricing page for what's included.
Frequently asked
- They live under the Reports tab in the admin area. From there you'll find outbound, inbound (closer), and agent reports that summarize a single day's calling for a specific campaign.
- A summary rolls a chosen day into headline totals for fast review. A historical dig spans multiple days or pulls call-level detail, which you want when you're investigating a trend rather than checking today.
