Transfer-Conf Numbers and DTMF: setting up the D1–D5 transfer presets
How the seven Transfer-Conf Number and DTMF fields create the D1 through D5 links your agents click to auto-fill a transfer.
Most transfers in a campaign go to the same handful of destinations: a benefits desk, a verification line, an AGI logging script. Typing those numbers by hand wastes seconds and invites typos, so VICIdial gives you a set of presets your agents click instead. They live in the Transfer-Conf Numbers and DTMF fields on the campaign.
What the seven fields actually do
There are seven fields here. They give you two full sets of a Transfer-Conference number plus its matching DTMF string, and three extra conference numbers on top. When the lead or campaign loads, the agent interface shows up to five links labeled D1 through D5 on the transfer-conference frame.
When an agent clicks one of those links, VICIdial auto-populates the number-to-dial field and the send-DTMF field for them. DTMF, the touch-tone digits a phone sends, is what you need when the destination has an IVR menu that asks the caller to press 1 for a department or punch in an extension. Pairing a number with its DTMF means the agent does not have to listen for the prompt and key it in by hand.
AXFER and blind handoffs to a script
If you want a preset that performs a blind transfer of the customer to a VICIdial AGI script for logging or to an IVR, put AXFER in the number-to-dial field. A blind handoff, also called a Cold transfer, drops the customer onto the destination and the agent walks away. You can target a custom extension by appending it, so AXFER82904 sends the call to extension 82904 as long as that pattern is in your dialplan.
Consultative handoffs are different. They no longer need the old CXFER prefix because the agent screen now carries a CONSULTATIVE checkbox. So your D1 through D5 presets stay focused on plain numbers, AXFER targets, and the DTMF strings that go with them.

Open the campaign you want to configure and find the Transfer-Conf Numbers and DTMF section. Work through it in order:
- Decide your two most common destinations and put their numbers in the two paired number fields.
- For each, add the DTMF digits the destination IVR expects, separated by w pauses where the menu needs a beat to answer.
- Fill the three extra conference number fields with any standing lines, such as an AXFER logging target.
- Save, then log an Agent into the campaign and confirm the D1 through D5 links appear and auto-fill correctly.
These presets only cover five slots. If you need a longer menu of numbers, the related Enable Transfer Presets option gives you an almost unlimited list instead. And whichever Disposition the agent picks after the handoff still posts back to the same Campaign reporting, so your numbers stay clean.
For the full picture of how every transfer control fits together, see the VICIdial transfers and closers guide. A Warm transfer to a live Closer often pairs nicely with a D-preset that pre-dials the closer Ingroup.
