How to migrate from Dialpad to VICIdial

Dialpad's AI-powered transcription and coaching features work well for inside sales teams. When outbound volume requires a true predictive dialer with full campaign control, VICIdial is the move. Here is what the migration looks like.

How to migrate from Dialpad to VICIdial

Dialpad markets strongly on AI-powered call transcription and real-time coaching, which appeals to inside sales teams doing moderate-volume outbound. The limitation surfaces when teams need a full Predictive dialing engine: Dialpad's dialer is a power/preview tool, not a true predictive system with adjustable Dial level and live pacing controls. When the contact rate needs to climb and per-seat cost becomes a line item, teams start looking at VICIdial.

The full migration playbook lives in our complete guide to migrating to VICIdial. This post covers Dialpad-specific data and configuration mapping.

Why teams move from Dialpad to VICIdial

Dialpad's Sell product has a power dialer, but it lacks campaign-level list management, the ability to set lines-per-agent ratios, or Scheduled callback queuing that survives agent logout. Teams running large Lead list volumes find themselves manually managing lists outside Dialpad and pasting numbers in. VICIdial centralizes all of that: list import, filtering, recycling, status tracking, and pacing in one system.

Exporting data from Dialpad

  • Call history - Admin > Analytics > Export. You get a CSV with call date, duration, number dialed, and assigned user.
  • Recordings - Dialpad stores recordings in the cloud. Export via the API or download from individual call detail pages. AI transcripts export separately as text.
  • Contacts - Dialpad syncs contacts from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Export from those systems directly for the cleanest data.
  • Phone numbers (DID (direct inward dialing)) - submit a number port request via Dialpad support. Dialpad uses bandwidth.com as its underlying carrier for most US numbers, so ports are generally clean.

Mapping Dialpad structures to VICIdial

Dialpad organizes agents into Departments and Contact Centers. VICIdial uses Ingroup objects for inbound queues and Campaign objects for outbound. The mapping:

  • Dialpad Contact Center (inbound) = VICIdial Ingroup
  • Dialpad Dialer list = VICIdial Lead List assigned to a Campaign
  • Dialpad call outcomes (dispositions) = VICIdial Disposition statuses
  • Dialpad Moments (AI coaching cues) - these do not transfer. VICIdial has Whisper coaching and barge-in for supervisors, but AI moment detection requires a third-party integration.

Migration sequence

    VI->>AG: Agent accounts created, training session
    AG->>VI: Test calls on new platform
    DA->>SIP: Submit number port request
    SIP->>VI: Numbers ported, inbound routes updated
    DA->>DA: Cancel Dialpad subscription

DNC and compliance

Dialpad does not maintain an independent DNC list - it relies on your CRM or a third-party compliance tool to scrub lists before loading. When you move to VICIdial, you have an explicit DNC (do not call) management system built in. Import your existing suppression list before the first campaign runs. Also see migrating your DNC list to VICIdial for the import process in detail.

VICIfast handles the server side so you can focus on the data migration. A fully configured VICIdial server is ready in under 40 seconds. See VICIfast managed plans to get your instance running before starting the Dialpad export.
