How to make VICIdial dial faster

If your agents finish a call, disposition it, and then sit waiting for the next one, your dialer has slack. VICIdial can almost always dial more aggressively, the question is how to speed it up without flooding customers onto agents who are not free. There are four dials that move the most, plus one number that keeps you out of trouble.

1. Raise the dial level

The Auto dial level is the biggest lever. It sets how many lines the system opens per active agent. At 1.0 you dial one line per agent; at 2.0 you dial two. On a list that answers poorly, more attempts are needed to land each conversation, so raising the dial level directly cuts the idle gaps. Move it up gradually, a half-step at a time, and watch what happens to your live answers and your abandons.

2. Switch to a predictive dial method

If you are on RATIO, you set a fixed dial level and it never moves. Switching the Dial method to one of the adaptive methods turns on Predictive dialing, where the dialer raises and lowers the pace on its own to keep agents busy while staying under your drop limit. For a busy floor, predictive almost always dials faster than a fixed ratio because it reacts to your real-time answer rate instead of a guess. The adaptive modes are forms of Adaptive dialing that watch your results minute by minute.

3. Trim the dial timeout

The Dial timeout is how long a call rings before VICIdial gives up and moves on. A long timeout means lines sit ringing dead numbers for ages, slowing your throughput. Trimming it lets the dialer abandon no-answers sooner and get to the next lead. Be careful though: cutting it too short hangs up on people who would have answered, and US Safe-Harbor rules require at least 15 seconds of ring on consumer calls. Keep it inside the legal floor.

4. Keep the hopper full

None of the above matters if the dialer keeps running dry. The Hopper is the buffer of leads ready to dial, and it should hold a bit more than you burn through in a minute. If you dial fast, the hopper has to keep up or you get gaps no setting can fix. Letting VICIdial size the hopper automatically usually handles this, but on a fast campaign confirm it is staying full.

Faster dialing always pushes your Drop rate up, the share of answered calls with no agent free. The Drop Percentage Limit caps that, and in the US the FTC line is 3% of human-answered calls. Predictive dialing exists precisely so you can dial fast while the system holds you under that ceiling. Do not chase speed past your drop limit; that is how you end up with fines instead of sales. The full playbook is in how to lower your drop rate.

Tune it as a set

These four dials work together, raise the dial level, let predictive steer, trim the timeout sensibly, and keep the hopper fed, all while watching the drop limit. For the reasoning behind each setting, the dialing strategies guide is the place to start.

Aggressive dialing also leans on the server, more concurrent channels means more CPU and bandwidth, so the box has to keep up. A managed plan is sized for predictive loads out of the box, so speed is a setting, not a hardware project. See which plan matches your call volume.

Frequently asked

What is the single biggest lever to dial faster?
The Auto Dial Level. It sets how many lines the system opens per active agent. Raising it means more attempts per agent, which fills idle gaps, but it also raises your drop rate, so move it up gradually.
Can I just set the dial level very high and be done?
No. Dial too aggressively and more customers answer with no agent free, which spikes your drop rate past the legal limit. Faster dialing has to stay under your Drop Percentage Limit. Let the adaptive methods steer it for you.
