Comparing cloud predictive dialers

How cloud predictive dialers actually differ: pacing logic, per-seat cost, carrier control, and where you own your data.

Comparing cloud predictive dialers

Most cloud predictive dialers do the same core job: they place several calls at once, predict when an agent will free up, and connect a live person to that agent. The real differences are in how aggressively they pace, what they charge per seat, whether you control your own carrier, and who holds your recordings.

Pacing is where they really differ

Every cloud dialer claims Predictive dialing, but the pacing models vary. Some let you set a fixed Dial level and walk away. Others run Adaptive dialing that watches your Drop rate and pulls back automatically when too many live answers land with no free agent. If you have a small team or strict compliance needs, look at how much control you get over the Drop percentage limit and whether the system can fall back to Power dialing or Preview dialing when your lists run thin.

Aggressive pacing fills agent idle time but raises your Abandonment rate. Conservative pacing protects compliance but lowers Occupancy. A good dialer lets you tune that balance instead of hiding it behind a single slider. Ask whether you can see the live numbers behind the pacing, or whether the platform just promises to handle it for you. Visibility into your own pacing is the difference between trusting a black box and actually managing your campaign.

Pricing models you'll see

Cloud dialers usually price three ways: per agent per month, per minute of usage, or a flat license. Per-seat SaaS is predictable but climbs fast as you add agents. Per-minute looks cheap until your dial volume grows. A flat or self-hosted model trades a bigger setup effort for a fixed monthly number that doesn't scale with headcount. The right choice depends less on the sticker price and more on how your team grows over the next year.

  • Per-seat: easy to budget, expensive at scale.
  • Per-minute: variable, hard to forecast on busy days.
  • Flat or self-hosted: fixed cost, more responsibility for setup and a Carrier.

Carrier control and data ownership

This is the quiet dividing line. Closed SaaS platforms bundle the SIP trunk and bill your minutes through them. That's convenient, but you can't shop carriers, and your call audio often lives on their servers. Open platforms let you bring your own Carrier and keep Call recording files on a box you control, which matters for Recording retention rules and for any TCPA or DNC (do not call) question where you need the raw evidence in hand.

VICIdial sits on the open side. It's free, runs on Asterisk, and supports Blended dialing inbound and outbound through your own DID (direct inward dialing) numbers and Ingroup queues. The trade-off is that someone has to run the server. For a deeper feature breakdown across categories, see our VICIdial vs alternatives guide. If you're weighing a hosted SaaS suite specifically, the VICIdial vs Five9 comparison lays out the contrast.

A simple way to choose

flowchart TD
  A[Need a cloud dialer] --> B{Want your own carrier?}
  B -->|No| C[Closed SaaS suite]
  B -->|Yes| D{Want to run a server?}
  D -->|No| E[Managed VICIdial]
  D -->|Yes| F[Self-hosted VICIdial]
  C --> G[Predictable per-seat cost]
  E --> H[Fixed cost, no ops]
  F --> I[Lowest cost, most work]

Start with carrier control and data ownership, because those are hard to change later. Pricing and pacing are easier to adjust once you know which side of that line you want to be on.

Where VICIfast fits

VICIfast is managed VICIdial hosting. You get a dedicated, single-tenant server provisioned in under 40 seconds, with a branded subdomain over HTTPS, while keeping your own carrier and your recordings on your own box. It's the open model without the server admin. See plans and per-server pricing on our pricing page.
