What the Admin User Group does on a phone entry

The Admin User Group field on a VICIdial phone entry decides which admin users are allowed to view that phone. It is a visibility control, not a calling control, and it is easy to overlook until someone cannot find a phone they expected to see.

It ties the phone to a User group, the same grouping mechanism VICIdial uses elsewhere to scope what an admin or Agent can touch.

What the default does

The default value is --ALL--. With that set, any admin user can view this particular phone extension. Most installs leave it alone because there is no need to hide phones from your own admins.

When you change it to a specific user group, only admins in that group can see and open the phone. Admins outside the group will not find it in their phone list at all.

When you would restrict it

• You run multiple teams in one VICIdial install and want each team's admins to only manage their own phones.
• You have a managed-services arrangement and want to keep client phones separated by group.
• You want to reduce clutter so admins only see the phones that are theirs.

How the visibility check resolves

Note this restricts viewing the phone record in the admin. It does not change which Extension the phone dials or how it registers, and it is unrelated to the Dialplan number. It is purely about who in your admin team sees the entry.
