What the Speech Voice Lab Page Does in VICIdial

The Speech Voice Lab lets a native speaker broadcast their voice to every agent in a chosen campaign, so language-school students hear and repeat while teachers record or monitor.

What the Speech Voice Lab Page Does in VICIdial

Most VICIdial pages are about dialing customers. The Speech Voice Lab is the odd one out: it was built for teaching. The idea is a call-center school where students log in as agents, and a native-language speaker logs into this page to broadcast their voice to every one of those agents at once.

It turns the dialer into a language lab. Students hear the native speaker, repeat what they hear, and teachers record or monitor them while they practice. The whole class shares one live voice feed instead of each learner needing a separate connection.

How the broadcast is wired

The broadcast is scoped to a single Campaign. The teacher picks the campaign on the Speech Voice Lab page, and their voice goes out to every Agent currently logged into that campaign. Anyone who is not logged into that campaign hears nothing, which is what lets you run several classes side by side without them bleeding into each other.

Because the link follows the campaign, the practical setup is simple. Put one class on one campaign, point the teacher at that campaign, and every active Agent session in it receives the feed. Move a student to a different campaign and they join a different teacher's lab automatically.

Recording and monitoring the class

The teaching value is in the feedback loop, and VICIdial already has the pieces for it. While students repeat, teachers can record the practice for later review, or listen in live. Live listening uses the same Call monitoring machinery the platform uses everywhere else, so a teacher can move from one student to the next and check their pronunciation in real time.

If a teacher wants to coach one student privately without the rest of the class hearing, that is Whisper coaching territory: a quiet word to a single agent. And when a teacher needs to jump straight into a student's audio to correct something on the spot, that is Barge-in. Between broadcasting, recording, whispering, and barging in, the lab covers the full demonstrate-repeat-correct cycle that language teaching depends on.

Who actually uses this

This is a niche page, and that is fine. A few things help when you do reach for it.

  • Give each class its own campaign so broadcasts never cross between groups.
  • Have students log in and confirm they are in the right campaign before the teacher starts, since only logged-in agents in that campaign receive the feed.
  • Decide up front whether the session is recorded, and tell students, so review later is straightforward and expectations are clear.

It is worth knowing this exists even if your floor is a normal sales or support operation, because the same broadcast-and-monitor pattern is occasionally useful for onboarding new hires, not just for teaching a language.

The Speech Voice Lab is one of the lesser-known utilities tucked into VICIdial's admin pages. For the broader map of those tools and how they fit together, read our guide to VICIdial admin bulk tools. For a starting point on the everyday admin pages, see our overview of the basic lead management tools.

Running a teaching lab still needs a working VICIdial server underneath it. If you would rather have one provisioned in under 40 seconds instead of building it yourself, see VICIfast pricing.
