PrePopulate Transfer Preset: filling the Number to Dial field automatically
How the PrePopulate Transfer Preset option fills the Number to Dial field in the Transfer-Conference frame before the agent touches it.
On a single-destination campaign, every transfer goes to the same place. Making agents click a preset for a number they always dial is friction you can remove. PrePopulate Transfer Preset does exactly that: it fills the Number to Dial field for them in advance.
What it does
PrePopulate Transfer Preset is a campaign option, set to N for disabled by default. When you define a value, VICIdial drops that value into the Number to Dial field inside the Transfer-Conference frame of the agent screen automatically. The agent opens the frame and the destination is already sitting there.
That saves a step on every handoff. When an Agent decides to transfer, they do not hunt for a D-preset or open the Presets window. They open the frame, glance at the pre-filled number, and dial.
Where it pairs well
This option shines on a Fronter campaign where every qualified lead goes to one closer line. The whole job of the fronter, the agent who qualifies the prospect, is to hand off fast, so a number that is already typed removes a real bottleneck.
It also pairs with the presets you have already built. The pre-filled value can be a number that exists in your Presets list, so the default destination is one you maintain in one place rather than a loose string buried in a campaign field.
Think of it as the opposite of the D1 through D5 links. Those wait for the agent to choose before they fill the field. PrePopulate makes the choice ahead of time and fills the field the moment the call loads, so the default destination is in place before the agent even decides to transfer. The agent can still reach for a D-preset or the Presets window when a call needs to go somewhere unusual, but the common case is already handled.

Pre-filling the field does not lock it. The agent can still edit the Number to Dial value if a particular call needs to go somewhere else. If you want to remove that freedom and force every transfer to your one destination, that is a different control, covered in hiding the transfer number to dial. The two work well together: pre-fill the right number, then hide the field so it cannot be changed.
One small thing to watch: the option is a single value, so it pre-fills one destination for the whole campaign. If different lead lists in the same campaign need different default targets, pre-population on its own will not split them. In that case lean on the per-record approach instead, where a number stored on the lead drives the transfer, or run separate campaigns so each can carry its own default. Pick whichever keeps your routing honest.
Because the destination is set before the call, your agents move faster and your Disposition data stays consistent, since transfers land where the Campaign expects. Whether they then run a Warm transfer by staying on the line or a Cold transfer by dropping out, the number is the same and the Closer on the other end gets a predictable stream of calls.
For how this fits the larger handoff design, the transfers and closers guide lays out every related setting. If you want a hosted dialer with these defaults set up for your team, our pricing has the plan that fits.
