Xfer-Conf Number Override per list in VICIdial

When an agent transfers a call in VICIdial, the agent screen shows a set of preset transfer-conference numbers, the quick buttons they hit to send a customer to a closer, a department, or an external line. The Xfer-Conf Number Override is a group of five fields on the list-modify screen that lets you swap those presets out for one list.

Normally the presets come from the campaign. With this override set, any Lead from this list shows the list's five numbers instead of the campaign's. Default is blank, which means the list just inherits whatever the Campaign defines.

Why five different transfer numbers per list

Picture one campaign running two products: a Spanish-language list and an English one. Both share dialing settings, but the warm transfer should land in different teams. Rather than splitting them into separate campaigns, you put the right five transfer targets on each list. Agents working a record from the Spanish list see the Spanish closers; agents on the English list see theirs. Same campaign, different transfer destinations.

This pairs nicely with other per-list overrides. A list can carry its own agent script, its own Dial prefix, and now its own transfer presets, all without forking the campaign. The more you can express as a per-list difference, the fewer near-duplicate campaigns you have to maintain, and fewer campaigns means fewer places to make a mistake.

The override covers exactly five slots, which lines up with the five transfer-conference presets the campaign defines. You do not have to fill all five; you can override one and leave the others blank if only one destination differs for this list. But remember the rule is all-or-nothing per slot, not a blend, so plan which of the five you actually want to redirect before you start typing.

How the lookup resolves

flowchart TD
  A[Agent opens transfer] --> B{List override set?}
  B -- Yes --> C[Show list's 5 presets]
  B -- No --> D[Show campaign presets]
  C --> E[Agent picks target]
  D --> E
  E --> F[Conference the transfer]

VICIdial checks the list the lead belongs to. If the override fields hold values, those are the buttons the agent gets. If they are blank, the campaign presets show instead. The decision happens per call, based on which list the record came from. That means an agent can take one call from a list with overridden transfers and the very next call from a plain list, and the transfer options change between the two without anyone touching a setting mid-shift.

Fill the fields with valid transfer destinations your dialplan understands. A typo here means an agent presses a transfer button and the call goes nowhere.

Good housekeeping

  • Document what each of the five slots means so agents know which button does what.
  • Keep slot order consistent across lists so muscle memory still works for agents who handle several lists.
  • Test one transfer to each target before you turn the list loose on live calls.

If you are mapping out how lists, campaigns, and overrides fit together, the lists and leads guide walks the whole flow, and what a VICIdial list is covers the basics first.

Frequently asked

How many transfer numbers can I override per list?
Five. The override gives you five fields, matching the five campaign transfer-conference presets.
What happens if I leave them blank?
The list falls back to the campaign's transfer presets, which is the default behavior.
Does this change dialing or just transfers?
Only transfers. It controls the transfer-conference targets agents see, not how leads are dialed.
