How to download a list
How to export a VICIdial list to a file from the list modification page, what the download contains, and what to do when a list is too big to pull this way.
Sometimes you need the raw records out of VICIdial: to back them up, hand them to a client, or check them in a spreadsheet. Downloading a list pulls every record from one list into a single file you can open anywhere. A list here is a bucket of Lead records that share a list ID, and the export gives you all of those rows in one go.
For the wider context on how a Lead list is built and managed, the lists and leads guide is the place to start. This post just covers getting the data back out.
Where the download link lives
Open the list you want from the LISTS section and scroll to the list modification page. At the bottom you'll find a link to download this list. Click it and your browser hands you a save-file window. Save it, then open the file in a spreadsheet, a text editor, or a database program to read the records.

What ends up in the file
The export is complete, not a summary. It contains every record in the list and every field stored for those records, including the phone number, name and address fields, the lead's status, and any standard columns VICIdial keeps. That makes it a clean snapshot you can archive or move into another system. Because it carries the full field set, an exported file doubles as a ready-made template if you ever need to rebuild the list elsewhere or hand it to a colleague who works in plain spreadsheets.
- All records in the list, not just dialable ones.
- All the standard lead fields, so you can reload them later without losing data.
- A plain file format that opens in any spreadsheet or text tool, no special software needed.
Permissions and big lists
The download link only shows up if your user account has the matching permission, which is set on the User Modification page. If you don't see the link at all, that permission is usually the reason, and an admin can switch it on for you. It's a sensible guardrail: a full list export is sensitive data, so not every operator should be able to pull one. Decide up front who on your team actually needs it, and grant the permission to those users only.
A download is the reverse of loading data in. When you reload an exported file, the same field layout lets you skip the column-mapping guesswork and use the List ID Override to drop everything under one list. If you also want a refresher on the basics, what a VICIdial list is covers the structure your file mirrors.
Your lead data is yours, and a managed VICIdial box should never get in the way of exporting it. VICIfast gives you a dedicated server, online and branded in under 40 seconds, with full access to your lists and downloads from day one. Compare plans and get your own dialer.
Frequently asked
- At the bottom of the list modification page. Open the list from the LISTS section, scroll down, and click the link to download this list.
- Downloading a list needs the right permission on your account, set on the User Modification page. If it's missing, an admin has to enable it for your user.
- Very large lists can fail to pull through the browser. When that happens, ask your system administrator to export the records directly rather than retrying.
