Campaign CID Group Override per list in VICIdial

Make one VICIdial list rotate through a pool of caller IDs by pointing it at a CID group, overriding the campaign for that list only.

Campaign CID Group Override per list in VICIdial

A CID group is a named pool of caller IDs that VICIdial rotates through instead of dialing out from one fixed number. The Campaign CID Group Override field on a list lets you point a single list at one of those pools, so just that list rotates while the rest of the campaign carries on as normal.

By default the field is disabled, meaning the list uses whatever caller ID the campaign provides. Set it to a valid CID group and every outbound call to a Lead in that list draws its number from the group.

Why rotate caller IDs at all

Hammering thousands of dials from a single number tends to get that number flagged or labeled. Spreading calls across a pool keeps any one number's volume lower and is part of how teams stay off the Spam Likely label label. Many CID groups also match the outbound number to the lead's area code automatically, which lines up a local-looking caller ID without you building a number-per-region map by hand.

Rotation only helps if the numbers behind it are real and reachable. The pool you point the list at should hold numbers your Carrier will actually accept and that you are entitled to present. A group full of numbers your route rejects will not save your reputation; it will just spread failed calls around. So treat the group as one piece of a wider plan that includes verified numbers, sensible dial volume, and clean lists, not a magic fix for a number that already got labeled.

It overrides everything else for that list

When a CID group override is active on a list, it overrides all caller ID number settings the campaign would have used for that list. So it sits above even a single-number Campaign CID Override on the same list. If you set both, the group wins. Pick one approach per list and keep it simple: a fixed number for a small targeted list, a group for high-volume dialing where rotation matters.

Because the group decides the number on every single call, it is the most powerful caller ID lever you have at the list level. That power cuts both ways. If the group is misconfigured, every dial from the list is affected, not just a handful. So when you first attach a group to a list, watch the early calls and confirm the numbers showing up are the ones you expect. Once it is behaving, a CID group is largely hands-off; it keeps picking numbers and area-matching them as the list dials, with no per-call work from you.

The group has to exist first. Build the CID group under your caller ID settings, load it with numbers you are entitled to use, then select it on the list. The override only references a group; it does not create one.

List override or campaign default?

If the whole campaign should rotate, set the CID group on the campaign and leave the lists alone. Use the list-level override when only one slice of leads needs the pool, for example a fresh high-volume batch on a campaign that otherwise dials from a single branded number. That way you do not change behavior for lists that are working fine.

The VICIdial lists and leads guide shows where this fits in the bigger lists-and-campaigns picture, and the single-number CID override is the simpler sibling when you only need one number.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between CID Override and CID Group Override?
CID Override sets one fixed number for the list. CID Group Override points the list at a pool of numbers that VICIdial rotates through.
Which one wins if both are set on a list?
The CID Group Override. When a group is active it overrides all caller ID number settings for that list, including a single-number override.
Does this rotate numbers automatically?
Yes. The group decides which number each call uses, and many groups match the number to the lead's area code for you.
