Setting the VICIdial frame background color

The frame background is the big main canvas of a VICIdial screen, the area behind the lead data, the dispositions, and the script. Where the menu is dark, the frame is the opposite: black text sits on top of it, so this field has to stay light. It is one entry in a Screen Colors template, and it sets the overall mood of the workspace your Agent lives in for a full shift. Choosing it well is mostly about restraint.

What the field controls

Frame Background takes a single six-character hex value and fills the main frame with it. The default is D9E6FE, a soft pale blue that keeps black text crisp. The constraint is the inverse of the menu: because the text on the frame is black, the color must be light. If you go too dark here, the page content turns into low-contrast mush. Think of the frame as the paper and the menu as the binding, the paper is light, the binding is dark, and the two only look right together.

This setting pairs directly with the menu background, and the two are usually chosen together so the dark sidebar and light canvas read as one intentional theme. Both live in the same Screen Colors record, which you mark active and then assign to the admin, agent, or chat screen in System Settings. As the flow shows, the only decision that matters is lightness. Once the hex is set and the template is assigned in System Settings to the admin, agent, or chat screen, the frame color appears on the next load for everyone using that screen. There is no separate switch to flip, the color is simply part of whichever template a given screen is pointed at.

When to adjust it

Most teams leave the frame near the default and only nudge it to match a brand or to cut glare in a bright room. A barely-tinted gray or off-white reads well for hours and reduces eye strain. Avoid saturated colors here, the frame is a backdrop, not a billboard. Keeping the frame calm also helps the Agent script stand out, which is what you actually want your agents reading. A light, low-glare canvas is one of those quiet wins that compounds across every Agent session.
