How to add a screen label template in VICIdial

Adding a screen label template in VICIdial takes about two minutes once you know the fields. The template lets you rename, hide, or lock the default agent screen fields for a whole Campaign, so it is worth getting right the first time. Here is the exact path from blank form to a label your agents actually see.

Create the template

From the Admin area, open Screen Labels and click the add link at the top of the page. You will be prompted for four things before anything else:

  1. Label ID — at least 2 and no more than 20 characters, no spaces or special characters. This is what identifies the label throughout the system.
  2. Label Name — the descriptive name for the entry, free text so you can recognize it later.
  3. Active — set whether the screen label is live or parked.
  4. Admin User Group — restricts which admins can view the record. The default --ALL-- lets any admin user see it.

Fill in the field labels

Click submit and the form expands to show the 19 editable field labels: Title, First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name, Address1, Address2, Address3, City, State, Province, Postal Code, Vendor Lead Code, Gender, Phone Number, Phone Code, Alt Phone, Security Phrase, Email, and Comments. Each one defaults to empty, which keeps the hard-coded default name. Type a value to rename that field as it appears to the Agent and on the admin modify-lead page. You can also set a field to ---HIDE---, ---READONLY---, or ---REQUIRED--- for behavior beyond renaming. Building a reusable template like this is the same habit you bring to a good Agent script.

  D --> E[Submit]

  F --> G[Assign in Campaign Agent Screen Labels pulldown]

The diagram shows the whole arc: build the shell, expand it, label the fields, then attach it. For the wider context of where this fits with scripts and colors, see the agent screen configuration guide.

Attach it to a campaign

Saving the template does nothing on its own. Open the Campaign modification page and pick your template from the Agent Screen Labels pulldown. From that point the campaign's agents see your wording. A handy detail: the expanded template also lists Campaigns Using This Screen Label, so you can confirm where a template is live before editing it. The pattern mirrors how to assign a script to a campaign, just on the labels pulldown instead of the script one.

Tips before you save

A few habits make templates easier to live with. Keep the Label ID short and meaningful since it cannot contain spaces or special characters and is capped at 20 characters; you will be picking it out of a pulldown later. Leave fields you do not want to change empty, because empty means the hard-coded default name carries through untouched, which is exactly what you want for the standard fields. Only fill the labels you actually intend to alter. If you set a field to ---HIDE--- and your campaign shows agent call logs, remember to set Hide Label in Call Logs to Y so the data does not leak back into view there.

Finally, lean on the Active flag while you build. Park a template as inactive until the wording is right, then activate it and attach it to a Campaign. That keeps half-finished labels off live agent screens and lets you stage changes calmly.

That is the full loop: add, label, assign, verify. If you would rather have a hosted VICIdial that is already configured and ready for agents, check out VICIfast pricing.
