10DLC: registering before you text
US carriers filter unregistered application-to-person texting, quietly. Registering a brand and a campaign is how you stop being filtered — and it commits you to a recurring fee with a notice period, so the screen tells you the price before you agree to it.
If you send business texts to US numbers, the carriers want to know who you are. That registration is 10DLC, and without it your messages are filtered — accepted by the network and then quietly not delivered. This is the one place in Smart Carrier where a click submits your legal identity to an external registry and starts a recurring charge, so the screen is built to make sure you meant it.
Register your brand
The brand is your company: legal name, address, tax identifier, and a contact. It is submitted to the registry through Telnyx and reviewed there, not by us. Approval usually takes a short while; the page shows the status as it moves.
Register a campaign
The campaign is what you intend to send. You pick a use case, describe it, and provide sample messages that genuinely represent your traffic.
Before the button will enable, the dialog fetches the live price from Telnyx and shows you the terms verbatim — including that the fee recurs and that cancelling has a notice period. The price you acknowledge is passed back to the server, which re-quotes and refuses if it has moved, so you are never charged a number you did not see.
Throughput and caps
An approved campaign carries limits, shown on the page: how many texts per minute you may send, and a daily cap. Both are set by the carriers based on your brand and use case, not by us. Exceeding them means messages queue rather than fail.
What to expect
- Registration fees are charged by Telnyx, not by VICIfast, and appear on your carrier invoice.
- Some fees are charged up front; an annual option is cheaper if you prepay.
- Approval is not instant, and it is not ours to hurry. Plan the registration before the campaign that depends on it.
While you wait
You can still send. You will simply see the gap between Sent and Delivered widen, which is the filtering doing exactly what registration exists to stop.
