vs ViciBox — the free installer ISO
ViciBox is the free openSUSE installer ISO from the VICIdial maintainers, not a hosting service. What it costs to run it yourself versus managed.

VICIfast vs ViciBox: which should you pick?
ViciBox is a free openSUSE-based installer ISO from the VICIdial maintainers, not a hosting service — you supply the hardware, the hardening and the pager. Pick it if you want to run the box yourself and pay nothing but your own time. Pick VICIfast if you want that same VICIdial installed, secured and monitored for you in about 40 seconds.
One correction first, because it changes the comparison. ViciBox is not a hosted product. As of 7 September 2026, vicibox.com is four static pages offering ISO downloads, with no pricing, no cart and no hosting plan anywhere on it. Hosting from the same group is sold under a separate brand, VICIhost — vicibox.com's nameservers are ns4/ns5.vicihost.net, and its download links point at download.vicidial.com.
So this page compares a free do-it-yourself installer against managed hosting. It is the same VICIdial either way: same /vicidial/admin.php, same agent screen, same hot keys, same campaign IDs. The difference is who does the work.

Where ViciBox wins
- It is free. No licence, no subscription, no vendor. If your constraint is cash and you have the skills, nothing here beats a free ISO.
- It comes from the VICIdial maintainers. Their server page states that "VICIbox Server is maintained by the Vicidial Group, the active maintainers of the VICIDIAL call center suite," and the ISOs are served from
download.vicidial.com. The current image,ViciBox_V12.x86_64-12.0.2.iso, is dated 22 January 2025. - Cluster installs. Their server page advertises "easy installation of multi-server ViciDial clusters." If you are building a multi-box cluster on your own iron, that is what the ISO is for.
- Total control. Your hardware, your kernel, your tuning, your data centre. Nothing is abstracted away because nothing is managed.
- Separate documentation site.
docs.vicibox.comis live and maintained independently of the marketing pages.
Where VICIfast wins
- Somebody else does the install. Under 40 seconds from paid order to a working VICIdial admin over HTTPS — measured median, not a round number. A ViciBox install is a manual job, and it ends where the hardening work begins.
- The boring work is included. OS patching, firewall, TLS certificates, daily backups with 7-day retention, and monitoring are part of the plan rather than your weekend.
- A dashboard over the dialer. Trunk management with partner templates, an audit log, sub-users with roles, a public status page, and a self-serve firewall. An ISO gives you
admin.phpand nothing above it. - Recorded root SSH. You still get root, and every SSH session into the box is captured as a replayable asciinema cast — useful when someone asks who changed what.
- Per-trunk TCPA scrubbing. Bring your own Blacklist Alliance key and set the scrub mode per outbound trunk. See /features/tcpa-compliance for how it works and /pricing for which plans include it.
- Someone to call. Support is part of the plan. With the ISO, free support means the community forum.
On price — they win this outright
Let us not dress this up. ViciBox costs nothing to download. VICIfast starts at $49/month for the Launch plan, and the US-region ladder runs $139 (Growth), $249 (Pro), $479 (Ultimate) and $549 (Velocity, dedicated cores) — sized for roughly 25, 50, 100 and 150 simultaneous agents. /pricing carries the live grid. On both sides you bring your own SIP carrier and pay them directly; we never resell minutes.
What the monthly fee buys is the labour: the install, the hardening, the patching, the certificate renewals, the backups, and someone answering when it breaks. If you already do that work well and enjoy it, the ISO is the better economics and we would not pretend otherwise. See /pricing for the full grid.
What to check before you buy
All observed on 7 September 2026:
- The domain
vicibox.comwas registered on 7 April 2008 through eNom. The registrant record is privacy-proxied; only "FL" and "US" survive the redaction. - The site is four static pages.
/pricing,/contact.html,/terms.htmland/privacy.htmlall return 404 — there are no published terms or privacy policy on this domain. - The homepage's
Last-Modifiedheader reads 14 August 2025. The footer copyright year is 2015 on the homepage, 2012 on the demo page and 2023 on the server page. - The server page's prose describes "ViciBox 11.0.1" while the download buttons on that same page serve
ViciBox_V12…12.0.2.iso. Two v13 beta images, dated 30 September and 3 October 2025, are present on the download server but are not linked from the site. - The demo ISO is dated 3 November 2014 and ships VICIdial 2.0.5; the page itself says it "should not be used in production."
- The homepage's analytics snippet carries the literal placeholder property ID
UA-undefined-undefined. - Support routes to the vicidial.org community forum, with paid support sold separately at vicidial.com. There is no ticket system, SLA or client area on vicibox.com.
None of this affects the ISO itself, which downloads and installs. It matters because the marketing pages are not where you will find current information — the download server and docs.vicibox.com are.
When to pick ViciBox
- You have a Linux administrator, and running the box is work you want to own.
- Budget is the binding constraint and free wins.
- You are building a multi-server cluster on your own hardware.
- You need a specific data centre, kernel or hardware setup that no host will give you.
That is a real buyer and the ISO serves them. You can verify the whole proposition yourself before committing anything: it is a free download.
When to pick VICIfast
- You want VICIdial running without becoming its sysadmin.
- You want it today — under 40 seconds, not an install session followed by a hardening checklist.
- You want the operational layer above the dialer: audit log, sub-users, status page, trunk forms, recorded SSH.
- You would rather pay a monthly fee than carry the pager.
Migration
Coming off a self-installed ViciBox box is mechanical, because it is the same VICIdial: same campaigns, same lead IDs, same dispositions, same recordings, same agent logins. Nobody on your floor gets retrained.
- Automated ViciBox migration — you point us at the source box, we read it over a read-only handshake and copy everything across while it keeps dialing.
- Manual ViciBox migration runbook — the mysqldump, scp and restore commands if you would rather drive.
Next steps
- VICIfast pricing — the published plan grid.
- Managed VICIdial hosting — what runs on the box and who keeps it patched.
- vs VICIhost — the hosted product from the same group, and what it costs.
