What server does VICIdial need for 50 agents?
For 50 agents dialing predictive at three lines each, VICIdial needs a 16-core server; for 50 agents taking inbound calls or dialing by hand, an 8-core server is enough. The table below comes from the same model as our agent capacity calculator, priced live, with every call recorded.
| How the floor dials | Calls at peak | Smallest server that fits | Peak CPU |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outbound, predictive 3 lines per waiting agent | 150 | Ultimate · 16 shared cores · $749/mo | 56% |
| Inbound every agent on a call, 10% more waiting | 56 | Pro · 8 shared cores · $399/mo | 55% |
| Manual dialing one line per agent | 50 | Pro · 8 shared cores · $399/mo | 52% |
- Bandwidth at peak
- 18 Mbps
- Predictive outbound, both legs
- Carrier channels
- 180
- Concurrent calls to ask your carrier for
- Recordings per day
- 15.1 GB
- 8 dialing hours
- Days of recordings on disk
- 21
- On Ultimate, before offloading
The smallest fit for predictive outbound runs on shared cores. For a floor that dials all day, the dedicated-core option is Velocity · 16 dedicated cores · $899/mo.
Each row is the same 50 agents dialing a different way. "Calls at peak" counts live calls at the busiest minute, ringing or connected. "Smallest server that fits" is the cheapest plan that keeps that minute under 60% CPU on shared cores or 70% on dedicated cores. The tiles under the table belong to the predictive row: what to ask your SIP carrier for, how much audio crosses the network, and how fast recordings fill the disk.
VICIfast is managed VICIdial hosting. You get your own VICIdial server with the same admin screens and agent screen you already know, and we run the patching, firewall, SSL certificate and 24/7 monitoring, with daily backups as an add-on. Plans start from $49 a month on shared cores and $249 on dedicated cores.
Why doesn't the 50-agent plan fit 50 predictive agents?
Because the agent counts on pricing are suggestions for a typical mix, and a predictive floor carries about three live calls per agent, not one. Pro is listed for 50 agents and has 8 shared cores. That carries 50 agents on inbound (about 56 calls at peak) or on manual dialing (50 calls).
At three lines per agent, the same 50 agents run 150 live calls. Each live call is about 2.2 Asterisk channels on top of each agent's own, so the server does far more work for the same headcount. The calculator moves a predictive floor up to Ultimate, with 16 shared cores, which peaks at about 56%.
The mistake to avoid is buying for the headcount instead of the lines. Our post on what VICIdial costs for 50 agents walks through the whole monthly bill, and how many agents fit on one VICIdial server answers the same question for other sizes.
Shared or dedicated cores for 50 agents?
Shared cores are fine for a floor that dials part of the day; for a predictive floor that dials all day, dedicated cores keep audio steady at the busiest minute. Shared cores get a lower ceiling in the calculator because a neighbour on the same host can borrow them. For 50 predictive agents the two choices look like this:
| Ultimate | Velocity | |
|---|---|---|
| Cores | 16 shared | 16 dedicated |
| Peak CPU, 50 predictive agents | about 56% | about 56% |
| Ceiling the calculator allows | 60% | 70% |
| Room left at the busiest minute | a little | more |
| Good for | part-day dialing, a mixed floor | all-day predictive dialing |
The core count is the same, so the peak is the same. The difference is that nobody else can borrow Velocity's cores, which is why it is the dedicated-core option shown under the table.
What does a 50-seat call center usually look like?
A 50-seat call center can mean very different loads, and the way it dials decides the server more than the seat count does. Four common shapes:
- All-day predictive outbound - lead generation, collections, appointment setting. Size for 150 calls: Ultimate, or Velocity if the floor never stops.
- Fronters and closers - fronters dial predictive and pass qualified calls to closers. Size mostly by the fronters' lines; the fronter and closer setup guide shows how to build it.
- Inbound or blended service - each agent holds one call, with some callers waiting in queue. A blended floor adds its inbound calls to its outbound lines.
- Manual or click-to-call B2B - one line per agent. Pro carries it.
When don't 50 agents need the big server?
If your 50 agents take inbound calls or dial by hand, Pro carries them, though near its shared-core ceiling, and paying for Ultimate buys headroom you may not use. The same goes for 50 seats spread over two shifts: size for the most agents logged in at once, not the headcount. If you are unsure, start on the smaller plan - one-click resize moves the same server to a bigger plan later and keeps its data and IP address.
Where to start
Put your own numbers into the capacity calculator - agents at the busiest minute, lines per agent and inbound calls - and it picks the plan and prices it in your region. Then start the 7-day free trial (card required): the server is ready in under 40 seconds, and the Setup Wizard builds a campaign, user groups, agent logins with browser phones and an inbound line in about five minutes. Not sure which row you are? Describe your floor on the contact page and a person will size it.
