vs Dialpad — progressive dialer on the top Sell tier

Dialpad publishes clear per-user pricing, but its dialer is progressive and gated to Sell Premium. Honest comparison with managed VICIdial.

Weighing two call-center platforms side by side

VICIdial vs Dialpad: which should you pick?

Pick Dialpad if you want an AI-native phone system with published per-user prices, and progressive dialing is enough for your floor. Pick managed VICIdial on VICIfast if you need true predictive pacing: Dialpad's own documentation describes a progressive dialer, gated to the Sell Premium tier, while predictive is the base product on every VICIfast plan.

Dialpad describes itself as an "AI-native contact center and communications platform". It sells three products that matter here: Dialpad Connect (voice, meetings and messaging — a business phone system), Dialpad Support (inbound and outbound contact centre), and Dialpad Sell (AI-enabled sales outreach). Their AI is genuinely built in-house rather than bolted on, and they publish their prices in six currencies, which is rare in this category.

The question this page answers is narrower: if you need an outbound dialer, what are you actually buying?

How much does Dialpad cost?

Dialpad publishes list prices per user per month, with annual and monthly rates:

ProductTierAnnualMonthly
ConnectStandard$15$27
ConnectPro$25$35
SupportEssentials$80$95
SupportAdvanced$115$135
SupportPremium$150$170
SellEssentials$39$49
SellAdvanced$95$110
SellPremium$150$170

Connect Enterprise is not published, and Dialpad's AI Agent product is credit-based with no public rate — both are "talk to sales".

Usage sits on top of the seat price. Dialpad's own FAQ states $0.02 per minute for outbound calls within the United States, and an inbound toll-free fee of $0.02 per minute per agent per call centre.

VICIfast bills per server: $139/month for Growth in the US at a suggested 25 agents, $249/month for Pro at 50. Minutes come from your own carrier at your own negotiated rate. See VICIfast pricing.

Does Dialpad have a predictive dialer?

No vendor documentation describes one. Dialpad's own help documentation calls the product "a progressive outbound dialer built into Dialpad". Their marketing pages use the phrase "power dialer", but the technical documentation's word is progressive, and that is the one to trust.

The difference is not cosmetic. Progressive dialing places one call per available agent. Predictive dialing places more, using a pacing algorithm that anticipates when agents will free up. On a floor where agent idle time is the cost you are trying to kill, that is the entire point of the software.

There is a second constraint. Dialpad's documentation states the Dialer is available to organisations with Dialpad Sell Premium licences — the $150/user annual, $170/user monthly tier. So outbound dialing is not a feature of the cheap plans; it is a feature of the most expensive one.

VICIdial ships predictive, progressive, preview and manual modes on every plan, configured per campaign with dial level and drop-SLA controls.

Can you bring your own carrier to Dialpad?

Dialpad publishes no bring-your-own-carrier product. What they do publish is BYOD — bring your own device, which is a different thing entirely (it is about handsets and phones, not carriers). Their connectivity story is their own network, with your mobile carrier only as a cellular fallback.

We are not going to claim they prohibit it, because we cannot verify that. The accurate statement is that there is no documented BYOC path, so if carrier control matters to you, ask them directly and get the answer in writing.

VICIfast is BYO carrier by design. Bring Telnyx, Bandwidth, Skyetel or anyone else, keep your negotiated per-minute rate, and switch carriers without it touching your hosting invoice. We never resell minutes.

What does the seat math look like?

Comparing Sell Premium, since that is the tier where the dialer lives, at the annual rate:

Floor sizeDialpad Sell Premium ($150/user annual)VICIfast (server + your SIP)
10 agents~$1,500 / mo + per-minute$69 + carrier minutes
25 agents~$3,750 / mo + per-minute$139 + carrier minutes
50 agents~$7,500 / mo + per-minute$249 + carrier minutes
100 agents~$15,000 / mo + per-minute$479 + carrier minutes

Both columns carry per-minute costs. On Dialpad that is $0.02/min at their published rate; on VICIfast it is whatever you negotiated with your carrier, which at volume is usually the cheaper of the two.

When is Dialpad the better choice?

  • You want one vendor for phones and contact centre. Connect at $15–$25 per user is a genuinely cheap business phone system, and running it alongside Support or Sell keeps everything in one admin console.
  • The AI features are the point. Real-time transcription, AI recaps, AI scorecards and live coaching are first-party and well executed. If you want those without an integration project, Dialpad delivers them.
  • Outbound is preview or progressive anyway. SDRs hand-picking 40 calls a day do not need predictive pacing, and the CRM-adjacent workflow is pleasant.
  • You want to try before you buy without talking to anyone. The 14-day self-serve trial is real, and their published pricing means you can budget before the first call.

When is managed VICIdial the better choice?

  • You need predictive dialing. Dialpad's documented mode is progressive. On an outbound floor that is the difference that pays for the migration.
  • The dialer should not cost $150 a seat. On VICIdial it is the base product, not the top tier.
  • Per-seat pricing has stopped scaling. Per-server billing means going from 20 agents to 45 costs nothing extra until the hardware runs out.
  • You want carrier control. Your own SIP trunk, your own per-minute rate, no markup.
  • Per-trunk TCPA scrubbing. Bring your own Blacklist Alliance key and set the litigator-scrub mode per outbound carrier. See /features/tcpa-compliance.
  • You want root. Custom AGI, your own cron jobs, direct MariaDB access. SSH sessions recorded as replayable asciinema casts.

How do you move from Dialpad to VICIdial?

Port your DIDs to your new SIP carrier first, and do not cancel Dialpad until porting completes — that is usually the long pole at two to seven days. Contacts come from your CRM rather than from Dialpad. Dispositions map by hand, queues become VICIdial in-groups, and recordings need a bulk export before the account closes.

Budget an hour or two of agent training: VICIdial's agent screen is denser than Dialpad's and less polished, with more of the controls on screen at once. Most migrations run one to two weeks end to end, paced by porting. Background is at migrate Dialpad to VICIdial. Contact us to scope it — migration help is free.
