vs Genesys Cloud CX — enterprise suite vs dedicated dialer
Genesys publishes per-user pricing and has first-class BYOC. Honest comparison with managed VICIdial, including the 15-agent floor on their predictive dialer.

VICIdial vs Genesys Cloud CX: which should you pick?
Pick Genesys if you need enterprise omnichannel with workforce management, published per-user tiers, and a floor big enough for its predictive dialer — their own documentation asks for 15+ logged-in agents. Pick managed VICIdial on VICIfast if the dialer is the product, at any floor size, priced per server rather than per seat.
Genesys Cloud CX is enterprise CCaaS — the vendor calls it an "AI-powered experience orchestration" platform, and it has been a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for contact centre as a service for eleven consecutive years as of 2025. It is a serious product with a serious price. This page is for the operator looking at a renewal and asking what a dedicated dialer costs instead.
A note up front: several claims people make about Genesys in comparisons like this one are simply wrong. They publish their prices. Their bring-your-own-carrier support is first class. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

How much does Genesys Cloud CX cost?
Genesys publishes four tiers on their pricing page, per user per month, billed annually: CX 1 at $75, CX 2 at $115, CX 3 at $155, and CX 4 at $240. Those are list prices for named-user licences, and there are paid add-ons on top for digital channels, workforce engagement and analytics.
The licensing model is more flexible than most, and worth understanding before you compare anything:
- Named user is the default, priced as above.
- Concurrent user is available at premium rates. Genesys bills the peak concurrent count per billing period and disregards peaks shorter than 30 minutes — which is genuinely thoughtful for shift-based floors.
- Hourly models exist too, billed either on hours interacting or hours logged in.
You cannot mix named and concurrent on one account. For a floor with heavy shift overlap, concurrent frequently beats named even at the premium rate — run both numbers before you sign.
VICIfast bills per server: $139/month for Growth in the US at a suggested 25 agents, $249/month for Pro at 50, $479/month for Ultimate at 100. There is no named-versus-concurrent question because there are no seats. See VICIfast pricing.
Does Genesys do predictive dialing?
Yes, natively, and it is good. Genesys documents a patented staging algorithm that calculates how long agents take to become available from historical metrics.
There is one constraint worth knowing, because it catches smaller floors out. Genesys' own predictive dialing best-practices documentation states the algorithm needs at least 15 logged-in agents to work properly, and the agent script must contain a Set Stage action. Below that threshold, or without the script action, the campaign degrades to power dialing.
That is not a criticism — predictive pacing is a statistical process and it needs a population to work on. But if your floor is eight agents, you are paying enterprise CCaaS prices for power dialing. VICIdial's pacing algorithm runs on small floors too, and dial level, drop SLA and recycle rules are per-campaign settings on every plan.
Can you bring your own carrier to Genesys?
Yes, and this is a real strength. Genesys documents two BYOC flavours — BYOC Cloud, where SIP trunks terminate on their cloud Edge over the public internet, and BYOC Premises, where they terminate on Edge hardware you run. Their pricing page states that a monthly allotment of BYOC minutes is included at no additional charge.
So carrier freedom is not a differentiator here. If keeping your carrier is the only reason you are looking at alternatives, Genesys already solves it. The differences that remain are price, floor size, and how much of the stack you want to own.
What does the per-user math look like?
Using published list prices at annual billing:
| Floor size | Genesys CX 2 ($115/user) | Genesys CX 4 ($240/user) | VICIfast (server + your SIP) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 agents | ~$1,725 / mo | ~$3,600 / mo | $69 + carrier minutes |
| 25 agents | ~$2,875 / mo | ~$6,000 / mo | $139 + carrier minutes |
| 50 agents | ~$5,750 / mo | ~$12,000 / mo | $249 + carrier minutes |
| 100 agents | ~$11,500 / mo | ~$24,000 / mo | $479 + carrier minutes |
Add-ons sit on top of the Genesys column. Carrier minutes sit on both sides — with BYOC on either platform, your carrier invoices you directly.
When is Genesys the better choice?
- You are buying a suite, not a dialer. Omnichannel routing, workforce engagement, quality management and analytics under one contract. Assembling that around VICIdial is a real integration project.
- Your floor is large enough for predictive to work and you want the vendor to own the pacing algorithm, the compliance posture and the uptime.
- Workforce management is load-bearing. Forecasting and scheduling for a few hundred agents is not something you want to rebuild.
- Procurement requires a Leader-quadrant vendor with signed MSAs, an assigned team and professional services. That is a legitimate constraint and Genesys meets it.
- You want BYOC without running a server. Their BYOC is first class and you get free included minutes with it.
When is managed VICIdial the better choice?
- Outbound volume is the entire job and you are not using the rest of the suite. Paying $115–$240 per user for a dialer you could run for $139 a month total is the common realisation.
- Your floor is under 15 agents. Genesys' predictive algorithm needs a bigger population than that; VICIdial's does not.
- Per-user economics have stopped scaling. Per-server billing means 20 to 45 agents costs the same until the hardware runs out.
- You want root. Custom AGI scripts, your own cron jobs, direct MariaDB access to your own data. SSH sessions are recorded as replayable asciinema casts for audit.
- Per-trunk TCPA scrubbing. Bring your own Blacklist Alliance key and set the litigator-scrub mode per outbound carrier. See /features/tcpa-compliance.
- Month-to-month matters. Genesys list pricing is annual. VICIfast is not.
How do you move from Genesys to VICIdial?
It is a rebuild, not an export — Genesys does not produce VICIdial-shaped data. Pull contacts from your CRM, map dispositions by hand, re-create routing as VICIdial in-groups, and export recordings through the Genesys API before the contract ends. Budget separately for replacing workforce management and speech analytics if you rely on them; the savings are smaller than a Five9 migration precisely because you are unbundling more.
Enterprise floors typically run six to twelve weeks phased. The full runbook is at migrating from Genesys to managed VICIdial, with a shorter write-up at migrate Genesys to VICIdial. Contact us to scope it — migration help is free.
