vs Convoso — closest competitor, opposite trade-offs
Convoso is a genuine outbound dialer with a deep compliance stack, sold by quote with no free trial. Honest comparison with managed VICIdial.

VICIdial vs Convoso: which should you pick?
Both dial predictively. Pick Convoso if you want its compliance stack — StateTracker, DNC scrubbing, Reassigned Numbers, caller-ID monitoring — owned and maintained by the vendor, and a quoted per-seat contract is normal for you. Pick managed VICIdial on VICIfast if you want published per-server pricing, your own SIP carrier and root on the box.
Convoso is the closest thing on this list to a direct competitor. It calls itself "AI-Powered Call Center Software & Dialers" and positions as an outbound sales platform — same job as VICIdial, aimed at the same floors. Most of the other comparisons on this site are category mismatches, where a PBX or an omnichannel suite gets evaluated against a dialer. This one is not. Both products dial predictively, both are built for outbound volume, and the differences are about how you buy, what you control, and who owns the compliance configuration.

How much does Convoso cost?
Convoso does not publish pricing. Their pricing page says they "provide customized solutions based on each customer's unique needs — such as number of seats, features, and integrations", and the call to action is to request a quote. Seats clearly drive the number, but the rate is not public.
You will find per-seat figures for Convoso quoted around the web. Every one we could trace led back to a third-party pricing round-up, not to Convoso. Ask them directly and get it in writing — and ask specifically whether telephony minutes are included or billed separately, because that is where quote-based dialer pricing usually differs from what you expected.
VICIfast publishes the whole grid. Growth is $139/month in the US with a suggested 25 agents; Pro is $249/month at 50; Ultimate is $479/month at 100. The price is per server, so it does not move when you add agents up to what the hardware runs. See VICIfast pricing.
Can you try Convoso before buying?
No, and to their credit they say so plainly. Convoso's own FAQ states: "While we don't offer a free trial, we do offer live customized demos." Buying is a sales-led motion — demo, quote, contract — with annual billing as the primary shape and a discount advertised for paying annually.
VICIfast is the opposite motion. Start a 7-day trial, card validated with nothing charged until day 7, and the server is provisioned in about 40 seconds. You dial real calls on real hardware before anyone talks to you. Whether that matters depends on how much you trust a demo.
Where Convoso genuinely wins
The compliance stack. This is not a throwaway — it is the strongest part of their product and the honest reason to pick them:
- StateTracker for mini-TCPA state rules, which are a real and growing problem if you dial nationally.
- DNC scrubbing against internal, federal and state lists.
- Reassigned Numbers Database integration — the FCC's database, wired in natively.
- Attempt Control Manager for per-lead attempt caps.
- ClearCallerID, which monitors your numbers across major carriers for spam-flagging, plus STIR/SHAKEN signing that Convoso says reaches the highest level of attestation.
If you dial nationally into regulated verticals and you want the vendor to own that configuration, Convoso has assembled more of it in one place than stock VICIdial ships. Building the equivalent on VICIdial means wiring several of those pieces yourself.
Other real advantages: bundled Tier-1 carrier relationships mean you do not have to source telephony, and there is no server for you to think about at all.
Where managed VICIdial wins
- You can see the price before you talk to anyone. Published grid, month to month, no quote cycle.
- You keep your carrier. Bring your own SIP trunk — Telnyx, Bandwidth, Skyetel, whoever — and we never resell minutes. Convoso does not publicly document bring-your-own-carrier support, and their voice page leans on their own carrier relationships instead. If carrier control matters, ask them about it explicitly before you sign.
- Per-server pricing. Growing from 20 agents to 45 costs nothing extra until you outgrow the box. Per-seat pricing charges you for every hire.
- Root on your own server. Custom AGI scripts, your own cron jobs, direct MariaDB access. Every SSH session is captured as a replayable asciinema cast, which is usually what an auditor actually wanted to see.
- Your data stays yours. Leads, dispositions and recordings live in a standard MariaDB schema. Dump it any time; there is no export ticket and no vendor gate.
- Per-trunk TCPA scrubbing. Bring your own Blacklist Alliance key and set the litigator-scrub mode per outbound carrier — different debt portfolios under different compliance contracts can scrub differently. See /features/tcpa-compliance.
- No vendor lock-in. VICIdial is open source. If you leave us, the dialer comes with you.
When should you pick Convoso?
- You want the compliance stack assembled and maintained by the vendor, and you are happy to pay for that.
- You do not want to think about servers, carriers or Asterisk at all.
- You have no one in-house who knows VICIdial and no intention of hiring one.
- Annual contracts and a sales-led purchase are normal for how your company buys.
Convoso is a real product doing a real job. If that list describes you, the quote is worth getting.
When should you pick managed VICIdial?
- You want published, per-server pricing you can budget against without a sales cycle.
- You want to keep control of your SIP carrier and your call costs.
- You want root, your own schema, and the ability to leave.
- Your team has — or can hire — one person who knows VICIdial. Most outbound shops do; it is the most widely deployed open-source dialer there is.
- You want to test with real calls before committing.
How do you move from Convoso to VICIdial?
There is no automatic export from Convoso into VICIdial's tables, so plan a rebuild rather than a copy. Pull your contact data from your CRM rather than from Convoso, map dispositions across by hand, re-create campaigns and lists in VICIdial admin, and export recordings before your contract ends. Source your own SIP carrier — that is the step teams coming off a bundled-telephony platform most often forget to schedule.
Most moves run two to three weeks with both systems live. The write-ups are at migrate Convoso to VICIdial and why teams leave Convoso. Contact us to scope it — migration help is free.
