ADAPT_HARD_LIMIT

A VICIdial adaptive dialing method that paces calls automatically but will never let the campaign's drop percentage cross the limit you set.

ADAPT_HARD_LIMIT is a dial method you choose when running Adaptive dialing and you care most about staying under a fixed drop ceiling. Like the other adaptive modes, it watches campaign results and sets the pace for you, so you do not have to babysit a dial level all day. The difference is in the name: it treats your Drop percentage limit as a hard wall. The dialer will pull the pace back before it ever lets the campaign cross that number, even if that means leaving some agents idle.

That makes it a good fit when you are dialing in places with a strict regulatory 3% abandonment limit, because a dropped call that crosses the legal line can be expensive. A dropped, or abandoned, call is one where the person answers but there is no agent ready to greet them. With a hard limit in place you accept a little more agent idle time in exchange for a guarantee that the Drop rate stays where you set it, day in and day out.

When to reach for it

Compare this to ADAPT_AVERAGE, which paces on rolling averages and can briefly drift over the limit before correcting, and ADAPT_TAPERED, which eases off gradually as it nears the ceiling. ADAPT_HARD_LIMIT is the strictest of the three. If compliance is the priority and you would rather have agents wait a moment than risk a stray dropped call showing up in an audit, this is the safe choice. Many teams in regulated industries default to it for exactly that peace of mind.

One thing to keep in mind: a hard limit only holds the line on dropped calls, not on every other quality metric. You still want to watch your overall Drop rate trend and tune the rest of your campaign settings, from your list quality to your dial timeout. If you find agents sitting idle too often, the limit may be set tighter than your traffic needs, and you can loosen it or switch to a tapered method that recovers the pace faster.
