Washington state telemarketing law

WA Telephone Consumer Protection Act — strict consent + statutory damages on top of federal.

Washington's Telephone Consumer Protection Act (RCW 80.36.400 et seq.) is one of the more aggressive state-level statutes. Civil penalties up to $1,000 per violation, plus a Treble damages provision.

Key requirements

Calling hours

8am-9pm Pacific time. Same as federal floor.

Recording

Two-party consent (Wash. Rev. Code § 9.73.030). Standard beep + disclosure pattern applies.

Caller ID

WA mirrors federal — accurate ID required. The 2019 update added penalties for misleading caller-ID display.

"Do Not Call" agreement

WA gives consumers the right to make a one-time DNC request that binds for 1 year. You must honor it across all your campaigns within 10 business days.
