vs Talkdesk — published seat pricing, separate dialer
Talkdesk publishes a real per-seat price list, but the outbound dialer is not in it. Honest comparison with managed VICIdial, and when each wins.

VICIdial vs Talkdesk: which should you pick?
Pick Talkdesk if you want omnichannel CCaaS with published seat prices and enterprise onboarding — but get Proactive Outbound quoted first, because the dialer is a separate product, not part of the $85–$225 seat tiers. Pick managed VICIdial on VICIfast if the dialer is the whole point, priced per server.
Talkdesk calls itself contact center software, sold as "Talkdesk CX Cloud". It is a genuine enterprise CCaaS product and — unusually for that category — it publishes a real per-seat price list instead of hiding behind a quote form. This page is for the operator comparing that seat price against a per-server managed VICIdial box, and trying to work out what the seat price actually includes.

How much does Talkdesk cost?
Talkdesk publishes four tiers on its pricing page, per user per month: Digital Essentials at $85, Voice Essentials at $105, Elite at $165, and Industry Experience Clouds at $225. Every tier carries the same footnote pointing you at sales "for more add-ons and recommendations", so treat the list price as a floor rather than a total.
There is also Talkdesk Express, a separate SMB offer for businesses under 50 employees in the US and Canada. It includes 25 licenses and $100 in credit with no contract, and additional users are $50/month.
VICIfast bills per server. Growth is $139/month in the US and suggests 25 agents; Pro is $249/month and suggests 50. The same box runs 20 agents or 45 — the price does not move with headcount. See VICIfast pricing for the full grid.
Does Talkdesk include a predictive dialer?
Talkdesk does have one, and it is native. The vendor describes support for "predictive, preview, power, and agentless dialing modes, plus patented AI-driven answering machine detection". But it is not listed in the feature set of any of the four published tiers — it is sold as a distinct product called Proactive Outbound Engagement, with its own datasheet and a marketplace listing whose only call to action is a contact form.
The practical consequence: the $105/user Voice Essentials price is not a predictive-dialing price. If outbound dialing is the reason you are shopping, the number you actually pay is the seat price plus whatever Proactive Outbound costs, and that second number is not published. Ask for it in writing before you compare anything.
On VICIfast the dialer is the entire product. Predictive, progressive, preview and manual modes are VICIdial core behaviour, configured per campaign with drop-SLA and dial-level controls, at no separate line item.
Can you bring your own carrier to Talkdesk?
Yes, and Talkdesk markets it openly. Their "bring your own carrier" page invites you to "bring your preferred carrier to Talkdesk CX Cloud", and they also support keeping an existing PBX in place. This is a real point in Talkdesk's favour and worth saying plainly — plenty of CCaaS vendors bundle carriage and make switching painful.
VICIfast is the same posture, taken further: your SIP carrier is yours, we never resell minutes, and swapping from Telnyx to Bandwidth is a trunk config change that does not touch your hosting invoice.
What does the seat math look like?
Comparing published list prices only, and assuming Voice Essentials at $105:
| Floor size | Talkdesk Voice Essentials | VICIfast (server + your SIP) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 agents | ~$1,050 / mo | $69 + carrier minutes |
| 25 agents | ~$2,625 / mo | $139 + carrier minutes |
| 50 agents | ~$5,250 / mo | $249 + carrier minutes |
| 100 agents | ~$10,500 / mo | $479 + carrier minutes |
Two caveats, both real. The Talkdesk column excludes the outbound dialer, which is the thing you would be buying. And carrier minutes sit on both sides of the table — on VICIfast you see them as a separate invoice from your carrier.
When is Talkdesk the better choice?
- You need omnichannel, not just voice. Email, chat and social in one agent workspace is Talkdesk's shape, and assembling that yourself around VICIdial is real work.
- You want the vendor to run the bring-up. Enterprise onboarding, an assigned team, professional services. That is what part of the seat price buys.
- Reporting has to work without SQL. Talkdesk's analytics are packaged; VICIdial's reporting is capable but assumes someone will occasionally query MariaDB directly.
- You are under 50 employees in the US or Canada and the Express tier's 25 included licences genuinely fit — that is a competitive offer with no contract attached.
When is managed VICIdial the better choice?
- Outbound volume is the job. 100+ dials per agent per day, predictive pacing, drop-rate caps. On VICIdial that is the default configuration, not a separately-licensed module.
- Seat pricing has stopped making sense. Per-server billing means growing from 20 to 45 agents costs nothing extra until you outgrow the hardware.
- You want root. Full SSH on your own box, custom AGI scripts, your own cron jobs. Every SSH session is recorded as a replayable asciinema cast, which is usually what the compliance reviewer actually wanted.
- Per-trunk TCPA scrubbing matters. Bring your own Blacklist Alliance key and set the litigator-scrub mode per outbound carrier — see /features/tcpa-compliance.
- You want to own the data. Leads, recordings and dispositions live in a standard MariaDB schema you can dump at any time.
How do you move from Talkdesk to VICIdial?
There is no automatic export from Talkdesk into VICIdial's tables, so the work is a rebuild rather than a copy. Pull your contact data from your CRM rather than from Talkdesk — that is where it should live anyway — map dispositions across, re-create your queues as VICIdial in-groups, and point your existing carrier at the new box. Recordings need a bulk export from Talkdesk before you cancel.
Most teams run both in parallel for two to three weeks. The step-by-step is in migrate Talkdesk to VICIdial, and contact us if you want help scoping it — migration assistance is free.
