VICIdial development and customization

VICIdial development is custom work that makes the dialer fit your call center - CRM integrations, screen-pops, AGI scripts, dial-plan logic and reports. VICIfast is a managed VICIdial host, and the team that has provisioned 200+ VICIdial servers also builds this work fixed-fee, with a written quote within 48 hours of a discovery call.

What is VICIdial development?

VICIdial development is writing code and configuration that make VICIdial do something it does not do out of the box, such as opening a CRM record when a call connects, or routing calls by a rule your business invented.

VICIdial is an open-source predictive dialer and call center suite built on Asterisk, so almost anything is possible. The real question is what is worth building, and who keeps it working after the next upgrade. On VICIfast, custom work is done by the same team that runs your server, under VICIfast custom integrations.

What can a VICIdial developer customize?

A VICIdial developer can customize how the dialer talks to your other systems, how calls are routed, and what your agents and managers see. These are the requests we get most often.

CustomizationWhat it does
CRM integrationLeads flow in from your CRM and call outcomes go back to the contact record - see VICIdial CRM integration
Screen-popThe caller's CRM record opens in the agent's browser when the call connects
AGI scriptsPerl or Python scripts that run before, during or after a call - see how a custom AGI works
Dial-plan logicRouting rules such as picking a SIP trunk by region, time-zone-aware queueing or agent-skill routing
Reports and data exportsNightly exports of call and agent logs to your data warehouse, or a real-time event stream for dashboards
Agent screenYour logo and colours on a modern agent screen with the VICIdial theme, included on every plan for servers we manage
QA workflowsRecordings flagged for review by disposition, with scores pushed back into VICIdial agent records

Everything except the theme is quoted as a project: fixed-fee, in writing, with a 30-day warranty.

How does a VICIdial development project run?

A VICIdial development project at VICIfast runs in four steps, and you know the price before any code is written.

  1. Discovery call, 30 to 60 minutes. You walk us through the systems, the data flow and what "working" means. We flag unknowns, such as rate limits or odd authentication, early.
  2. Fixed-fee quote within 48 hours. Scope, timeline, milestones and one price, in writing. There is no hourly billing.
  3. Build and sandbox test. We build against a sandbox or staging endpoint on your side, so you can test end to end before anything touches production. Most builds take 1-3 weeks; complex ones take 4-6.
  4. Rollout and a 30-day warranty. We cut over with your team online. Any bug that traces back to our code in the first 30 days is fixed free. After that, ongoing support is a retainer or per-incident.

How much does VICIdial customization cost?

VICIdial customization at VICIfast is priced per project, fixed-fee, against ranges we publish.

ProjectPublished range
Simple webhook - one event, one endpoint$1,500-$3,000
Two-way CRM sync with custom field mapping$5,000-$12,000
Real-time event stream and BI warehouse pipeline$10,000-$30,000

Hosting is separate and priced per server, not per agent - see pricing. The agent screen theme costs nothing extra on servers we manage.

Who owns the code in a custom VICIdial project?

You own the code written specifically for you, while generic helpers we write along the way - a request-signing utility or a retry harness, for example - we keep and reuse on other projects. That is the standard position on our custom integrations page. If your contract needs something different, raise it on the discovery call; we can also sign an NDA and DPA before discovery starts.

When should you not customize VICIdial?

You should not customize VICIdial when a setting already does the job, because every custom piece is one more thing that must keep working through upgrades.

VICIdial has hundreds of settings, and many requests that sound like development are really configuration: a different lead order, a callback rule, a new status, an agent script that fills in the lead's name. Check the agent screen configuration guide and the VICIdial API and AGI overview before you pay anyone to write code.

Our order of preference is simple:

  • Settings first. Free, survives upgrades, and your team can change it.
  • VICIdial's own API second. Part of VICIdial itself, so there is less of your own code to maintain.
  • Custom code last. Worth it when the first two cannot do the job, and only with a warranty and someone who will maintain it.

If a request looks like a settings change, we will tell you on the discovery call.

Where to start

Questions people ask

Do you charge hourly for VICIdial development?

No. Every project is fixed-fee, quoted in writing after a 30 to 60 minute discovery call, and if the work takes longer than we estimated, we absorb the extra time.

Will a VICIdial customization break when the platform is updated?

Every platform update runs an integration smoke test first, which sends a test event to your webhook endpoints. The 30-day warranty covers any regression in code we shipped, and retainer customers get ongoing compatibility monitoring after that.

Can my own developer build a VICIdial integration instead?

Yes. VICIfast publishes webhook schemas and a REST API for what it exposes, and if your developer builds the integration, we will review the code for free if asked.

Can you change VICIdial's core code?

Sometimes. Custom AGI hooks and configuration overrides can run on your server; deeper changes to VICIdial's PHP code or database tables run as a per-customer build and are quoted higher, because they cost more to maintain.

Which languages do your VICIdial developers write?

Perl for VICIdial-native AGI scripts, PHP for legacy hooks, and Node or TypeScript, Python or Go for integrations, picked to fit your CRM's own tools.
