How to remove a number from the DNC list

Numbers don't always belong on a Do-Not-Call list forever. Maybe a contact re-consented, or a number was suppressed by mistake. Taking a number off a DNC (do not call) list uses the very same tool you used to add it, so once you've added a number you already know most of the steps. Let's go through removal cleanly so a previously blocked number becomes dialable again.

Use the Add-Delete DNC Number tool

In the LISTS section, open the "Add-Delete DNC Number" link. It both adds and removes, so the screen is the one you already know. Enter the phone number you want to take off the list and submit it to delete the entry. The tool handles removal with the same process it uses for adding, just with the opposite result.

Mind the scope. Just like adding, you can run the removal against all campaigns, all active campaigns, or all DNC campaigns. If a number was suppressed across everything, remove it across everything; if it was only on one Campaign's list, target that scope so you don't accidentally touch other lists.

The removal flow at a glance

flowchart TD
  A[Number to free up] --> B[Open Add-Delete DNC Number]
  B --> C[Enter number]
  C --> D[Pick scope: all, active, or DNC campaigns]
  D --> E[Submit to delete]
  E --> F[Removed from chosen DNC list]
  F --> G[Dialable again at the hopper]

Confirm the change

After removal, the number is no longer filtered out as leads move into the Hopper, so it can be dialed again on campaigns where DNC checking is active. To double-check what happened and when, use the "DNC LOG SEARCH" feature, which shows the history of entries and who touched them. You can also download the full DNC list as a text file to verify the number is gone.

Removing a number from your DNC list only changes VICIdial. It does not affect any external suppression you owe, such as a national registry. Make sure the contact is genuinely callable before you free up the number.

One thing to keep in mind: if a number keeps reappearing on the list, an Agent may still be dispositioning calls with a DNC-flagged status, which re-adds it automatically. Removal is a manual action, but automatic adds will keep happening unless the disposition behavior changes.

For the wider context on how lists and leads move through the system, see the VICIdial lists and leads guide, and to understand which list a number sits on, read internal vs campaign DNC.

Running compliance well starts with a dialer that's set up right. A managed VICIdial is ready in under 40 seconds with DNC tools in place. Browse our pricing and pick the plan that fits.

Frequently asked

Do I use a different tool to remove a number?
No. The same Add-Delete DNC Number link in the Lists section both adds and removes. Enter the number and submit to delete it.
How do I confirm a number was removed?
Use the DNC LOG SEARCH feature to view the entry history, or download the full DNC list as a text file and check that the number is gone.
Why does a number keep coming back on the list?
An agent is likely dispositioning calls with a DNC-flagged status, which re-adds the number automatically. Adjust the disposition behavior to stop it.
