DNC list
A Do Not Call list of phone numbers that should never be dialed, checked automatically before VICIdial places a call to protect you legally.
A DNC list, short for Do Not Call list, is a collection of phone numbers that VICIdial must never dial. Before the dialer places a call, it can check the number against one or more DNC lists. If there is a match, the Lead is marked and skipped instead of being called. The check runs automatically, so a properly configured system protects you without an agent having to think about it.
DNC handling exists to keep you on the right side of the law. People who ask to stop receiving calls, or who register their number nationally, expect to be left alone, and ignoring that can mean real fines under TCPA rules. Treat the DNC check as something you never turn off, even in testing, because one stray call to a registered number is enough to cause a complaint.
Where the numbers come from
VICIdial keeps DNC at two internal levels. A system-wide Internal DNC applies to every Campaign on the dialer, while a Campaign DNC scopes the block to a single campaign so a number can still be called from elsewhere. On top of those, the National DNC Registry and any State DNC list list are external sources you import and scrub against on a regular schedule.
When an agent disposes a call as DNC, VICIdial adds that number to the chosen list and sets the Called status so it is not pulled into the Hopper again. That single action both records the request and prevents the next dial, which is why training agents to use the right disposition matters so much. A wrong disposition can leave a number callable when it should be blocked. Want fewer complaints overall? See how to lower your VICIdial drop rate. The DNC list is one piece of the broader DNC (do not call) picture, and keeping it current with regular scrubs is the cheapest legal insurance you can buy. Set a reminder to refresh your external sources on a schedule rather than letting them drift out of date.
