Help / Customer FAQ
Where do call recordings live?
On your server. We never copy recordings off your VPS.
Call recordings are written to local disk on your VPS by Asterisk. We never sync them off the box. Retention, encryption-at-rest, and deletion policies are entirely under your control.
Why we made this choice
Recordings are sensitive data. Putting them on a multi-tenant control-plane bucket would create a compliance perimeter we'd both have to manage. Keeping them on your dedicated VPS means: only your operators have access, and the only people exposed to a breach of those recordings are people you've already authorized.
Practical implications
Disk is finite — pick a plan with enough storage for your retention policy, or add the 100 GB / 500 GB volume add-on at order time.
Backups in our managed backup add-on cover the OS + application + database. They do not include recordings unless you explicitly include the recordings directory in your backup configuration.
Termination wipes the box. If you cancel and want a final recording archive, pull it via SCP/rsync before termination completes.
If your jurisdiction requires longer retention, mount a snapshot-eligible volume and rotate snapshots. Reach out to support if you need help configuring this.
